Discernment Counseling
Working together to identify the best path forward
Discernment Counseling
Discernment counseling is a short-term form of treatment designed for couples who are considering divorce or separation but are uncertain about their decision.
Discernment counseling differs from traditional couples therapy in that the primary goal is not to resolve relationship issues or improve the relationship. Instead, the focus is on helping you and your partner better understand both of your feelings and the dynamics of your relationship so you can make a more informed decision about whether to move forward with divorce or work on repairing your relationship.
In discernment counseling, Kathy works with couples to explore three paths: staying in the relationship as it is, moving toward divorce, or committing to six months of reconciliation and couples therapy.
Kathy will help you weigh the pros and cons of each path, identify patterns and issues that may have contributed to relationship problems, and develop a plan for moving forward.
